So the names are in….
The votes are cast….. The positions are taken…..
A selection of twits (is that the name for a twitter user?)
have suggested their chosen hot stock picks for 2014. I think twit describes
very well the amount of time I spend on twitter so no offence intended to any
of you by the way. Anyway having asked what stocks would be good in 2014 I
thought I might get a handful of suggestions but have ended up with over 40!
That blew my first plan to do some research on each of them before the New Year.
Even at a rate of 1 per week I would still be researching them as 2014 draws to
a close which kind of defeats the purpose (although I could be an excellent
hindsight trader!) So instead I've grouped them by market cap, and split the
middle group into resource stocks and non resource stocks, and will put them
out here now for you to digest and consider at this early stage in 2014. We
should all be doing our own research anyway.
What I will do though is provide a small overview of each of
the groups over the coming weeks and probably cut them down to the ones I like
the look of as 41 is a little overly ambitious to keep track of. And the best
twitter stock picker could win a prize for their successful stock picking - a
“Top Twit Stock Pick Award” so to speak. A bit like a BAFTA but spelled differently and obviously much harder to achieve. And more valuable hopefully
if the price rises well. Or maybe the winner will buy me a prize? OK I’m being
stupid, the point was to see which stocks other investors are backing in 2014
and generate ideas for further research (that’s the idea behind the whole blog
really) - sharing information and thoughts on the world of generally high risk
stocks.
As you will see from the selection below there seems to be
an overly large reliance on oil and gas stocks for 2014. Considering we've had
a pretty poor run for the past 3 years I’m not sure whether this is because we’re
all confident that the bottom has been reached and the only way is up, or whether
it’s blind optimism and we’re in for another painful year for our personal
finances. Certainly it’s true that there are many resource companies sitting on
significant assets, or generating good cash returns, yet fundamentally
undervalued. Let’s hope there are some success stories in 2014. It would be
great to see just one really decent takeover, ideally aggressive with more than
one bidder, whilst at the same time a really huge oil discovery. That would do
wonders for sentiment and private investor funds.
So without further ado, here are the 41 stocks which have
been chosen by you, my favorite twitter users (well you replied so you’re
automatically in the top twit category :) I’ll complete a summary of the first
group - the large caps – shortly. But for now, happy reading and get researching….!

Finding great deals is not so easy I think you have done a recommendable job for that by giving such beautiful and valuable tips on best stock picks and hot stock picks.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
hate it when people spam people's blogs with commercial links! good list above though shows how bad this year has been for AIM - almost all of them are down aren't they?
ReplyDeleteTwitter has had a bad time recently…. But the author has nailed it and utilized this platform quite impressively.
